Early Intervention Special Instructors use their broad knowledge of early childhood development to work with children and their families to assist each child in reaching their maximum potential to develop, learn, and participate in the natural activities and routines of everyday life.

Special Instructors focus on promoting caregiver-child interactions and supporting families in developing and using strategies to enhance their child’s learning opportunities. They help design the child’s environment and activities to promote learning and acquisition of skills in a variety of developmental areas, including cognitive, social interaction, behavior, and attention.

Special Instructors in Early Intervention, with additional training and certification, may specialize in the areas of Vision, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Behavior, and Communication. These Special Instructors use their specialized knowledge to provide additional and appropriate individualized strategies to families and to further adapt and enhance a child’s environment and optimize learning and participation.
